Been thinking about putting together my first AR-15. I've started browsing for parts and trying to wrap my head around it all. There seem to be some decent deals out there, but I'm honestly still trying to figure out what's actually worth the money.

I'm thinking of sticking with a basic rifle build to kick things off. Right now, I'm set on 5.56, but if anyone has better suggestions for a newbie, I'm all ears.

What parts brands should I steer clear of? Are there any hidden costs I should prepare for? I've heard stories of rookie mistakes that could be avoided, so if anyone's got tips, that'd be great. And is it more worth it to build it myself or just buy a pre-made one?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I appreciate any lessons you learned the hard way while getting started, too.

If you're putting together your first AR-15, sticking with a basic 5.56 setup is great but grab quality parts, skip the cheap stuff, and budget for tools and mags. Building's fun, but pre-mades save headaches...do your homework so you don't make rookie mistakes
