What shotgun works best for home defense?

I've been looking into shotguns for home defense and could use some advice. I'm debating between a 12-gauge and a 20-gauge. I know the 12-gauge packs a punch, but I've read that the 20-gauge has less recoil and might be more manageable in tight spaces. What do you think?

Also, what barrel length do you guys recommend? I've seen some with longer barrels that seem cool, but I worry about maneuverability. Is a shorter barrel better for home defense?

I'm also interested in your favorite models or brands. I'm after something that's straightforward and reliable. Lastly, how crucial is training? I've shot shotguns casually, but if I'm going to use one for defense, what kind of practice should I focus on?

I hear you, choosing between a 12- and 20-gauge can be tricky. You want stopping power, but also control in close quarters. Barrel length and reliable brands matter, but honestly, proper training might be the most important part

When I first grabbed my 20-gauge for home defense, I thought recoil might be soft. First trip to the range proved it, still plenty of thump, but super manageable indoors and training made all the difference
