A few years back, I went bow hunting and had my eye on this one trail for weeks leading up to the season. On opening morning, I got into my stand well before dawn, feeling pretty sure of myself. As soon as the sun started to rise, I heard something moving down the trail, just what I was hoping for. I was getting myself ready, focusing on my breathing, when out of nowhere, I heard it the unmistakable sound of my release dropping about 15ft to the ground.

Totally forgot to clip it to my D-loop when I climbed up! So there I was, watching a beautiful 8-pointer stroll right through my shooting lane, while my release just hung out on the forest floor. All I could do was sit there and watch the whole thing play out. After that deer disappeared into the trees, I climbed down, picked up my release, and obviously didn’t see another deer the rest of that morning.

I've definitely learned my lesson the hard way. Now I make sure to clip my release to the D-loop every single time. Every. Single. Time.
